Sheepy Amigurumi
A FREE pattern by Annette Morrison (cheewawamomma)
October 2011

This pattern is a bit more complicated than my usual patterns.  The combination of single crochets and treble crochets make the nubby texture of the sheep.  Basically, you are creating a ball, with the normal increases and decreases, but you are throwing in the trebles approximately every second or third stitch, depending on the row. Once you get the hang of it, it’s easy-peasy lemon-squeezy!

I used Red Heart Worsted Weight yarn, and a 3.5 hook.

tr-treble crochet
sc-single crochet
inc-increase
dec-decrease
FO-Finish off
sl st - slip stitch

In a magic ring:

1.  (2sc, 1 tr) twice (makes 6 stitches total in magic ring)
2.  (1sc, 1tr) in each stitch around. (12 stitches)
3.  (1sc, then (1tr, 1sc) in next stitch) around.  (18 stitches)
4.  (1sc, 1tr, then a sc inc) around. (24 stitches)
5.  (2sc, 1tr, then a sc inc) around. (30 stitches)
6.  (2sc, 1 tr) around. (30 stitches)
7.  (1sc, 1tr) around. (30 stitches)
8-9 Repeat row 6 and row 7. (30 stitches each row)
10. (1tr, 2sc, sc dec) around. (24 stitches)
11. (1sc, 1tr, dec) around. (18 stitches)

12. (1sc, dec around).  FO. (12 stitches)

STUFF!!!

With black, join with a sl st in the last sc on row 12.  Ch 1.

1-4.  Sc around. (12 stitches each row)
5.  Sc dec around.  FO. (6 stitches)

Stuff head and weave in ends.

Ears and Tail.  Make 3.

With white.
Chain 4.  Hdc in third chain from hook, sl st in last stitch. FO.

Legs

With Black.

On the underside of sheep, join with a sl st in one of the stitches where you think the leg should be.  The legs are crocheted directly to the sheep!

Chain 5, then FO.  Weave in end.
Repeat for the other 3 legs.

Sew on the Ears and tail.

Embroider eyes on.  Alternatively, you could use safety eyes, just insert them before you sew up the snout.

Voila!  You have a little sheepy!  Make a flock!  Wouldn’t they be cute hanging on a Christmas tree?!  Enjoy, and feel free to make them and sell them at craft fairs, although I’d appreciate credit, and I’d also appreciate it if you didn’t sell them online.  Don’t be baaaa-d!  (Sorry for that, I’m in a mood!)

Well, my little chef didn’t make the final cut for the Crochet Me! 2012 Amigurumi Calendar.  While I’m bummed out, I am also grateful to have been able to submit my design.  In an effort to cheer myself up, I’m offering the pattern for this guy as a freebie, just in time for Christmas!  I’m feeling happier already!  Have a wonderful and safe holiday season, and I’ll be back in the New Year with more crochet and crafty ramblings and such.

Here’s a little pattern for you!  I know that this is long overdue, but I hope that I’m forgiven with this little guy!

Scrubbing Bubble

Pattern By Annette Morrison, May 2010

Requirements

G hook

white worsted weight yarn

orangy yellow worsted weight yarn

small bits of black yarn

white, blue, and black felt

tacky glue

tapestry needle

small amount of white acrylic paint and a brush (optional)

In white:

1. SC 6 in magic ring

2. 2SC in each SC (12)

3. SC 1, inc, around (18)

4. SC 2, inc, around (24)

5. SC 3, inc, around (30)

6. SC 4, inc, around (36)

7-11. SC around (36)

12. In FLO, SC 1, inc, around (54)

13-14. SC around (54)

15. In BLO, SC 1, dec, around (36)

16. SC around

17. In previous row AND in back loops left from Row 12, SC around, joining the two rows together.

In BLO for the following rounds:

18. SC 1, dec, around. (24)

19. SC 2, dec, around. (18)

20. SC 1, dec, around. (12)

21. Dec around (6)

Fasten off, and weave in ends. This forms a spiral of front loops, which are used to attach the bristles.

In yellow for the bristles:

1. Attach yellow/orange yarn to the first front loop in the CENTRE of spiral on the the bottom of the bubble. *Chain 6, then sl st in second chain from the hook, and in the next 4 chains. Sl st in next 2 front loops.* Repeat from * in the spiral until you reach the last (outside) row.

2. In the first front loop of the last (outside) row: *Chain 6. Sl st in second chain from hook, and in next 4 chains, sl st in next front loop. Repeat from * around until you reach the last front loop. Then fasten off, and weave in ends. This last row omits the space in between the bristles, which makes the scrubber part of the bubble look fuller.

Finishing:

Using the picture as a guide, cut small pieces of felt for the eyebrows and eyes. I found it easier to paint the white fleck in the eye, rather than use felt, but it’s up to you. Use the tacky glue to fasten the eyes and eybrows to the bubble. Embroider the mouth using black yarn.

Now you have your own scrubbing bubble! Unfortuneately, as it is only a “look-alike” of the actual Mr. Clean Scrubbing Bubble, it will not clean your bathroom for you.

Have fun!!

I’m usually not one to follow any kind of sport, let alone the Olympics.  However, maybe because the Olympics are here in Canada, I find myself not so much fascinated with the events as I am fascinated by the spirit the Olympics brings.  Since I’ve sorta caught the fever, I thought I’d celebrate by crocheting an Olympic Gold medal!  And I’m offering the pattern for free to anyone who has a half-hour of free time and is a fan of the games.  Enjoy!

Gold Medal Pattern

By Annette Morrison, February 2010
Free to use for anything you want!!!
(This pattern has not been tested. If there are errors, please email me, and I’ll correct it for you as soon as I can)

Tools
:
Gold worsted weight acrylic yarn (I used some chunky stuff I had laying around, but it would probably be easier to embroider on something like Red Heart Supersaver)
Blue worsted weight acrylic yarn
Scraps of dark blue, black, red, yellow and green yarn.
3.5mm crochet hook
scissors
tapestry needle

Medal (Make 2)

With Gold.
1. 6 sc in magic ring, or chain 2, 6 sc in second chain from hook. Do not join rounds.
2. Sc inc every sc (12)
3. (1 sc, 1 sc inc) around (18)
4. (2 sc, 1 sc inc) around (24)
5. (3 sc, 1 sc inc) around (30)
6. (4 sc, 1 sc inc) around (36)
7. (5 sc, 1 sc inc) around (42)
8. (6 sc, 1 sc inc) around (48)
9. Sl st in next, FO.
Embroider the Olympic logo as pictured, as well as the year. Or get funky with it! I thought a tiny granny square motif indicating the sport of crochet would be cute. Or you could put a motif of any kind of hobby on it. Have fun!
Then, join the two medals together at the top about 3 stitches to the left of the center with a single crochet, right sides facing out, and single crochet around. Slip stitch to the first single crochet, then chain 6 tightly. Join with a slip stitch to the 3rd single crochet to the right of the centre, and fasten off, weaving in ends. This forms the loop for the neck strap to go through.

Strap

With Blue.
Chain 145, (or whatever length you want). In 3rd chain from hook, double crochet in each chain across. Fasten off. Being careful not to twist the strap, pull one end of the strap through the medal loop. Sew the two ends of the strap together.
Voila! You are now an Olympic Gold medalist! Congratulations!
