Here’s my entry for Schmancy’s Olympic Challenge! (http://plushyou.blogspot.com/2010/01/schmancy-olympic-challenge.html)
My category was skiing, so I wanted to make a skier of course! I wanted it to show the spirit of the games, or at least my interpretation of it. She’s got a snowball surrounding her body, as she’s taken a tumble down the ski hill. However, she is still smiling, because she’s holding onto her dream that one day she’ll be participating in the Olympics. Her eyes are closed because she’s daydreaming of the day she’ll win the gold.
She’s crocheted, amigurumi style, and other than her ski poles, is completely plush (stuffed!) Her skis are crocheted on top, then has wires sewn in the middle to keep them straight. The bottoms of the skis are felt, which are blanket stitched to the top of the skis. The ski poles are wires with yarn wrapped around them, and the little stoppers on the ends of the skis (forgive my terminology!) are single holed buttons.
Other details include red mittens, like the red Olympic mittens, ski hat with tassels and the Olympic logo on it, and finally a dusting of snow, which is actually dry-brushed acrylic paint. She measures 11 inches by 7 inches.
Hope you all enjoy my little interpretation of Olympic skiing! Best of luck to all the participants in the Schmancy Olympic Challenge, and to all of the Olympians!!
